Changing Mentality on Home Organization
The more I delve into the world of home organization, the more my mentality on the subject has shifted. In the past, I used to view organization as a chore, something that I had to do to maintain a tidy space. However, I have come to realize that organizing can be a form of self-care and an opportunity to create a space that reflects my values and brings me joy.
By simplifying our homes and adopting a minimalist approach to organization, we can create a sense of calm and order, making it easier to care for our living spaces. This shift in mindset has allowed me to appreciate the process of organizing and find joy in creating beautiful, functional spaces.
Kitchen Layout and Redesign
I wanted to start by giving you an overview of the layout of our kitchen. When you walk in from the living room, the dining area is on the right, while the kitchen is on the left. We have a side door leading to the backyard, which brings in plenty of natural light. The dining area has undergone several changes, and we recently decided to switch to a smaller table that fits perfectly with the window seat. This not only maximizes our space but also makes it easier to keep clean and clutter-free.
Moving into the kitchen, I want to highlight a few areas that I have recently organized. First, we have the kitchen prep table. This area serves as an additional countertop and holds essential items like my electric tea kettle, microwave, and a few plants. By limiting the number of items on the countertops, I have found that it is easier to cook and maintain a clean workspace.

Decision to Change Dining Area Table
We decided to switch to a smaller table that fits perfectly with the window seat in the dining area. This change maximizes our space and makes it easier to keep clean. We love how it eliminates one more flat surface for clutter to accumulate on, and it fits our daily needs perfectly.
Kitchen Prep Table Organization
The kitchen prep table serves as an additional countertop and holds essential items like my electric tea kettle, microwave, and a few plants. By limiting the number of items on the countertops, it becomes easier to cook and maintain a clean workspace.
Organizing the Corner Cabinet
One area of focus for me was the corner cabinet, where I keep our daily vitamins and other essential items. To make this space more organized, I used inexpensive baskets and labeling clips to categorize and store the different items. By utilizing these organizing tools, I was able to create a neat and easily accessible storage solution.
Organizing Under the Sink
Another area that I tackled was under the sink. With the help of a thrifted basket, a jar, and a latchable container, I was able to create a more organized and kid-safe storage solution. This simple setup allowed me to corral cleaning products, minimize clutter, and keep everything within reach.
Organizing the Snack Cabinet
Last but not least, I organized the snack cabinet using small baskets to corral items. This simple yet effective solution not only keeps snacks organized but also makes it easy to see what we have on hand. By implementing these organizational strategies, maintaining a tidy and functional space becomes a breeze.
Making Everyday Items Beautiful
In addition to organizing, I believe it’s important to make everyday items functional and aesthetically pleasing. By surrounding ourselves with beautiful, well-designed products, we can enhance our overall living experience.
Importance of Aesthetic and Functionality
When it comes to everyday items, finding a balance between functionality and aesthetics is key. By investing in products that not only serve their purpose but also bring joy to our daily lives, we can create a more enjoyable living environment. Whether it’s a stylish dog food container or decorative storage solutions, these small touches make a big difference.
Metal and Wooden Dog Food Container
One example of blending functionality and aesthetics is the metal and wooden dog food container I have in my home. Not only does it serve its purpose by keeping our dog’s food fresh, but it also adds a touch of style to the space. The wooden top, combined with the scoop that comes with it, creates a visually pleasing and convenient storage solution.
Random Items in the ‘Very Random’ Cabinet
We all have that one cabinet in our homes where random items seem to accumulate. I call mine the “very random” cabinet. In this cabinet, I store items like plant food, single-serve meal prep containers, and trash bags. While these items may seem unrelated, organizing them in a designated space helps keep things neat and easily accessible.
Contents of the Junk Drawer
Lastly, I briefly showed the contents of my junk drawer. The junk drawer is often a catch-all for various small items that don’t have a specific place. While it may seem chaotic, organizing the junk drawer can bring a sense of order and ensure that small essentials are readily available when needed.
Conclusion
Thank you for joining me on this journey to organize my home. I hope you found inspiration and useful tips for your own organizing projects.
